LIWA: The implementation of the second qualification test for the National Scientific Olympiads in mathematics, nuclear science, chemistry, and physics began at the Liwa Science and Innovation Centre in Al Batinah North Governorate.
Additionally, the first qualification test in science and mathematics for juniors was conducted as part of the programmes organised by the Ministry of Education, represented by the General Directorate of Scientific Innovation and Artificial Intelligence.
A total of 82 male and female students from various schools across the governorate are participating in these examinations. Students in the fields of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and nuclear science are undergoing the second qualification test after successfully passing the first stage and completing an advanced training programme. This programme was conducted under the supervision of national trainers and specialised experts with the aim of deepening the students' scientific knowledge and developing their research and practical skills. Based on the results of this stage, a select group of students will be chosen to represent the Sultanate of Oman in regional and international scientific competitions.
Meanwhile, junior students in science and mathematics are sitting for the first qualification test. Those who qualify for the next stage will be selected based on standardised scores and a predetermined number of seats for each subject. The qualifiers will then proceed to an in-person training camp, which will conclude with a second qualification test to identify high-achieving students eligible to represent the Sultanate of Oman in international competitions.
These tests are part of the Ministry of Education's efforts to enhance the environment for scientific innovation and discover student talents in scientific fields. Scientific Olympiads at the national, regional, and international levels are considered among the most prominent mechanisms that encourage students to pursue science, foster a spirit of positive competition, and develop academic and research capabilities. This aligns with national directions towards building a knowledge-based generation capable of competing on a global scale. - ONA
